Our trip begins early in the morning, at the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku. From there, we will leisurely head to our first stop -the Pink Lake.
It is one of the most unique lakes in Azerbaijan, famous for its unusual hue. There are not many pink lakes in the world, and Masazyr ranks among the top ten thanks to its stunning colors.
The pink tint of the water comes from halophilic algae, which thrive in salty waters and produce a reddish carotenoid pigment. Depending on the lighting and salt concentration, the water can shift in tone — from soft pastel pink to a deep, rich shade.
Pink Lake is rich in both liquid and solid salt. For centuries, locals have harvested salt here using traditional methods, and every corner of the lake preserves traces of this ancient history.
Not visited from December 1 to April 30, as the lake loses its color during this period. During this period, guests have more time for activities at the Shahdag Ski Resort.
From here, we will head to the stunning landscapes of the Khizi Colored Mountains. That locations is famous worldwide for its unique characteristics - mineral-rich rock layers create colorful paintings on the very slopes of the mountains. Walk through the rocky paths to take photos of these vibrant mountains with us as our guide will help you gather even more knowledge about this unique place.
After there we take on the road again and continue to Besh Barmaq, a sacred mountain known for its unique shape and local legends. Stretched out as a palm of a giant, it holds immense effect on the folklore of locals, carrying a variety of legends and stories about its history. Many believe the mountain has spiritual significance, and it’s common to see locals visiting for blessings.
Lunch on the first day of the tour takes place in one of the cozy restaurants in the city of Guba. Tourists will be able to taste the traditional dishes of Azerbaijani cuisine, which are famous for their rich taste and the use of fresh local ingredients. After the main course, guests are offered national tea, served with jam and sweets. This lunch not only allows you to satisfy your hunger, but also gives you the opportunity to directly get acquainted with the culinary traditions and delicacies of the northern region of Azerbaijan, enjoy hospitality and relax before continuing our rich excursion route.
Gechresh Forest, also known as Qechresh, is a serene woodland located approximately 12 kilometers from Quba in northeastern Azerbaijan. Renowned for its dense canopy of beech and pine trees, the forest offers a peaceful environment ideal for relaxation and nature walks. The area is dotted with natural springs and is home to a variety of flora, including wild walnuts, hazelnuts, cranberries, hawthorns, and apples. This rich biodiversity makes it a popular spot for visiting both between locals and tourists alike, especially during the warmer months. The forest's accessibility and the presence of nearby amenities, such as local teahouses offering traditional Azerbaijani refreshments, enhance its appeal. While the forest is a year-round destination, it's particularly inviting in spring and summer when the foliage is lush, and the weather is conducive to outdoor activities.
Set off to Laza Waterfall, one of the most picturesque natural attractions in northern Azerbaijan, nestled at the foot of the majestic Caucasus Mountains. Surrounded by dramatic cliffs and alpine meadows, this cascading waterfall is especially impressive in spring and summer, when the water flow is at its strongest. The route to the waterfall includes a pleasant walk with panoramic mountain views, fresh alpine air, and plenty of opportunities for stunning photographs. Here you can relax, enjoy the tranquility, and feel the raw power of nature far from the city’s bustle. During our stop, you will have enough time to explore the area, take photos, and admire the surrounding landscapes before continuing the journey with unforgettable memories of Azerbaijan’s natural beauty.
From October 15 to April 15, Laza Waterfall and the road leading to it are frozen, so the visit is excluded from the standard itinerary. During this period, guests have more time for activities at the Shahdag Ski Resort.
If desired, a visit to the waterfall is available for an additional fee. Transportation is provided only by an off-road vehicle — 30 AZN ($18) per vehicle, capacity 3–4 people.
